Organizational Project Management Maturity Assessment

 

An excellent first step is to conduct an Organisational Project Management Maturity Assessment which provides your company a benchmark of what its current maturity is, where its project management strengths and weaknesses are, and indicates which areas need to improve. It provides direction and confidence that the right processes and training are developed and implemented to improve project delivery performance. We use the international PMI© Standard “Organisation Project Management Maturity Model – OPM3” based on the PMI© 9 areas of the PM Body of Knowledge”.

Specific maturity assessment benefits are:

  • Organisational baseline assessment that will serve as a basis for benchmarking your organisation and indicate where future capability improvements in project management and benefits realisation can be made.

  • Organisations will understand their Project Management Maturity level from an overall and participating business perspective. This assessment can then be compared to a desired maturity level.

  • Organisational strength and weakness in project and benefits management are identified, contributing to the identification of areas that need improvement in terms of processes and systems.

Project Management Competency Assessment

 

Organisations often train staff in project management by placing them on public training courses or in-house delivered courses. Depending on the experience and product offerings of the providers, attendees are trained following a course outline which is either generic for public consumption or customised for in-house training. This training assists awareness building and general skills in project management, but does not necessarily target specific areas where staff may have gaps in competency. These gaps may be critical areas of effective project delivery.

We have developed competency assessment tools for project managers. We can prepare an individual Project Manager Competency Assessment that will highlight areas of weakness and areas of strength in current competency. Each individual will obtain a report on their current competency and a recommendation on areas to improve knowledge and skills. A re-assessment can be undertaken after a period of self-development to ensure that progress has been achieved and PM competency improved. TCQ TRIANGLE in conjunction with the individual and the organisation’s development group will prepare an individual programme to facilitate the areas for improvement. 

 

Strategy Deployment


Senior Management provides strategic direction for the organisation, and the business delivers the strategy via both ongoing business and a portfolio of change projects. The challenge organisations face is the effective deployment of their strategies.

We have developed a Strategic Journey Mapping method that complements the prioritisation technique and produces a map of what right things must unfold in which relationship to each other.

Strategic assumptions, risks, and performance forms part of the Strategy Journey Mapping approach. Monitoring and control of the map is undertaken using MxP support tools.

Senior management is now able to provide a line of sight for the strategy and measure achievement on-going.  

 

PMO Setup and Development

 

Project or Programme Management Offices within medium to large organisations are becoming the norm in business. In order to maintain oversight of a vast number of projects organisations are increasingly creating a centralised Project Management Office (PMO). PMOs can consist of a Centre of Excellence to a comprehensive Programme Office and, as maturity in delivering strategic objectives through programmes and projects increases, a Value Office.
